01Am I charged today?

Nothing. Your card is saved with Stripe and not charged. The first and only charge is $100 on the day we open, and that's your first month of membership. Cancel before then and you've paid nothing — there's no refund to chase because no money ever moved.

02Do I get my own space in there?

No. You get the run of the room and storage for your own stuff. Assigned squares would mean fewer members, higher rent, and a lot of padlocked dead space. It's somewhere you go, not real estate you lease.

03Where is the building?

North Austin. We're still settling on the exact building — it comes down to price, light and square footage. You'll know the address before your card is ever charged.

04What will it cost once it's open?

$100 a month. The $100 charged on opening day is your first month, so month one is covered the moment we open. There's an initiation fee for anyone who joins later, and founding members never pay it. The founding rate is locked for as long as you keep the membership — it doesn't go up on you.

05Do I need to know how to use any of this?

No. There's no orientation, no certification and no test. It's a drill and a sewing machine, not a CNC lathe — pick it up, and if you're unsure, ask whoever's nearest. Somebody in there has done it before.

06Can I run a business out of it?

Yes. Sell what you make, ship it out the big door, bring someone in to look at it. Nobody's going to ask whether it's a job or a hobby.

07Why "Castle of If"?

The Château d'If is the island prison in The Count of Monte Cristo. Dantès gets out by digging, for years, with a hidden tool, in a room nobody was watching. That's the building.
